A portrait by friend and fan Erin McPhee
A contemplative overweight Skeletor or a lone fisherman fighting off a murderous, oversized crab, each of Geordan Moore’s drawings have their own unique story to tell.
Putting pen to paper, the Halifax-based freelance illustrator lets his imagination run wild. While dark at times, his surreal scenes manage to maintain a playfulness, telling of their creator’s sense of humour.
Born in New Brunswick’s capital, Moore, 28, was raised in Rothesay, a suburb of Saint John. He showed an interest in drawing at a young age and went on to receive a bachelor of fine arts from Mount Allison University in Sackville, N.B., and a degree in design from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design in Halifax, N.S.
For inspiration, Moore looks to the world around him. Carrying a sketchbook with him at all times, he jots down anything and everything that affects him in some way. His childhood also plays a role in his creative process as the 1980s cartoons, heavy metal music and Calvin and Hobbes comics he was a fan of remain strongly embedded in his memory.
Moore continues to exhibit his work in Eastern Canada and the Signed and Numbered Poster Gallery in Salt Lake City, Utah, and sell prints. He also creates posters for musicians and arts festivals.
